Egyptian ambassador meets Serbian president to discuss economic cooperation

CAIRO – 5 June 2024: Egyptian Ambassador to Serbia Bassel Salah met Tuesday with President Aleksandar Vučić to discuss bolstering economic relations and the reciprocation of investments.

They also held talks on consolidating political ties capitalizing on each country's weight on the international and regional levels. The ambassador equally noted that bilateral relations have been experiencing momentum since the visit of President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi to Belgrade in July 2022.  

 

In August, President Sisi asserted Egypt's keenness on enhancing cooperation with Serbia in various domains, especially in the defense field. He added that Egypt was looking forward to activating partnership between the two countries, highlighting the deeply-rooted historic ties between the two sides.



Sisi made the remarks during a meeting with Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Miloš Vučić in the presence of Egyptian Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki.



The talks tackled means of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the military and security fields.



The talks also reviewed a host of international issues of mutual concern, especially the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its geopolitical and economic repercussions.



Sisi conveyed greetings to the Serbian president who in turn entitled Vučić to forward greetings to the Egyptian president.



Vučić lauded Egyptian-Serbian relations, especially in light of Sisi's visit to Serbia in July 2022 that gave momentum to bilateral relations. He commended the growing and effective Egyptian role at the regional and international levels.



The Serbian president also highlighted Egypt's efforts to combat terrorism at the regional level in addition to promoting stability, security and development. He praised urban development in Egypt.
