CAIRO - 3 June 2024: Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, Egyptian Minister of Planning, stressed the importance of government spending in the past period on infrastructure to improve the quality of roads and public transportation.

She added that this has led to a decrease in the number of accidents by 34 percent over the past three years, which preserves the health of the Egyptian citizen.

Al-Saeed said that the volume of investments spent on infrastructure in Egypt during the period from 2003 to 2014 witnessed a sharp decline, which needed to pump huge investments to improve the services provided to citizens and decent public transportation, which is considered a basic service for the citizen.

She further added: “In order to provide any kind of service, schools and health units, I cannot do it without a good road network and transportation.”

In her speech, the Minister of Planning also pointed to the government's keenness to localize the railway industry.

This came in the Minister’s remarks on the parliamentary discussions regarding the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt’s Resolution No. 34 of 2024 approving the “credit facilities agreement between the government of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the government of Spain to supply 7 luxury sleeper trains from the Talgo company at a value of 200 million euros.”

Representative Alaa Abed, Chairman of the Transport and Communications Parliamentary Committee, presented the report of the joint committee between the Transport and Communications Committee,  the offices of the Economic Affairs, Plan, Budget and Foreign Relations Committees on the decision of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt No. 34 of 2024.

The report explained that the process of replacing and renewing the mobile units in the railway system came within the plan established to develop the railway system with all its components, in order to achieve the highest levels of safety and security for the passage of trains and to provide a high-quality railway transport service that meets all needs and achieves community satisfaction.
