CAIRO - 3 June 2024: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inspected the 3rd Africa Health ExCon, which is being held under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The exhibition is a major platform for showcasing the latest medical products and technologies from around the world.

He was accompanied by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghafar, Minister of Health and Population; Major General Doctor Baha Zidan, Head of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Purchase, Medical Supply, and Medical Administration and Medical Technology Management; and Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi, Head of the Egyptian Drug Authority.

The activities of the 3rd edition of the Africa Health ExCon conference and exhibition, organized by the Egyptian Authority for Unified Purchase, Medical Supply, and Medical Administration and Medical Technology Management under the patronage of President El-Sisi, were launched.

The event was attended by Dr. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs, a number of African Ministers of Health, heads of several bodies, members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, representatives of many international companies in the field of health and pharmaceuticals, representatives of international organizations and global partners, and ambassadors from some countries.

At the beginning of his tour of the exhibition, Madbouly visited the Egypt Pharma City pavilion, where he listened to a presentation from company officials about the manufacturing of medicines in the city. The presentation emphasized the importance of the project as a leading initiative in this field.

The officials indicated that the project was implemented by order of the political leadership to strengthen healthcare security levels, adding that Egypt Pharma City is a cornerstone for the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt, with the aim of providing high-quality products.

Company officials showcased a variety of high-quality medicines manufactured at Egypt Pharma City at lower prices than imported products. Project officials confirmed that the current phase is focused on producing medicines for chronic diseases, alongside efforts to increase production capacity. To this end, they have contracted with 12 international companies, and are currently finalizing agreements with 7 new companies.

They underlined that the manufacturing process is carried out in cooperation with major international companies specializing in this field, and that exports have already begun with new markets opening up in the Arab and African regions. The company also has its sights set on the European and American markets.

Company officials emphasized that this city was a dream that has become a reality, and there is an ambitious plan to make this city one of the largest and most promising emerging pharmaceutical cities in this field, despite its recent establishment, with a history of no more than 3 years.

Following this, Madbouly moved on to inspect the pavilion of the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI). During his visit, he listened to a presentation by Major General / Mukhtar Abdel Latif, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the AOI, who referred to the establishment of the Arab African company for the production of medical materials and wafers, and factories for surgical sutures and medical syringes.

The Chairman of the AOI also indicated during his presentation that an agreement has been reached with a Chinese company to produce X-ray and magnetic resonance imaging devices through a factory that will be the nucleus of a medical industrial city. He added that medical remote communication devices are also being produced to provide remote medical support in remote areas.

Major General Mukhtar Abdel Latif added that mobile clinic vehicles are being manufactured in a capable factory.

Then, the Prime Minister inspected the pavilion of the Arab Company for Pharmaceuticals and Medical Supplies "ACDI". He listened to a presentation from a company official who indicated that ACDI was established with Arab contributions and has 48 years of experience in the field of pharmaceutical and medical supplies industries.

The official confirmed that ACDI includes 17 subsidiary companies in various medical fields in addition to a company for research and development. She added that 1200 pharmaceutical preparations are being produced.

"We have major projects and we are always keen to produce medicines that are imported and suffer from shortages in the markets," she said.

"Currently, 100 pharmaceutical preparations are being produced, which contributes to saving $150 million annually from the import bill. Localizing the raw materials industries in the companies affiliated with ACDI is also being pursued, as these raw materials were causing an increase in the import bill," she continued.

The official noted that in addition to the above, the manufacturing of oncology drugs has been localized, with major investments for the first phase, which is scheduled to be completed on June 30, 2025.
