CAIRO – 2 June 2024: The National Dialogue has requested judicial authorities to release pretrial detainees who have been held due to their involvement in activities supporting the Palestinian people.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Board of Trustees of the National Dialogue emphasized that such releases, within the limits of the law, would “promote unity between the people and the government in safeguarding national security in its comprehensive sense.”

The board stressed the critical importance of strict adherence to the law during these challenging times faced by Egypt.

The board's call comes in light of Egypt's steadfast and effective stance against the undermining of the Palestinian cause, its commitment to protecting Egyptian borders, and its support for the struggle of the Palestinian people, the statement said.

The board unanimously expressed its support for Egypt's position in advocating for the Palestinian cause, highlighting President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's assertion that recognition of the Palestinian cause is the only viable solution.

Furthermore, the board endorsed Egypt's rejection of any attempts to undermine the Palestinian cause or harm the country’s national security and full sovereignty over its territories.

The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) has reported that numerous individuals have recently been arrested in Egypt for promoting boycott campaigns in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The conflict in Gaza, which began on October 7, has tragically claimed the lives of over 36,400 people and left 82,600 others injured, according to the health ministry in the enclave.

Egypt plays a crucial role in the conflict, firmly opposing the displacement of Palestinians from their lands and actively working towards a permanent end to the war.

Egypt, along with Qatar and the United States, is leading mediation efforts between Hamas and Israel. It is also spearheading the delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate the dire conditions in Gaza.
