CAIRO – 23 July 2017: Bibliotheca Alexandrina prepares to host on Monday the Fourth National Youth Conference that will address top national issues in the attendance of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.

Alexandria governorate started its preparation earlier on Friday for the Fourth National Youth Conference. Security services and armed forces had deployed security unites throughout the governorate, waiting of the arrival of the president.

In preparation to the Youth Conference, Bibliotheca Alexandrina hang welcome banner to Sisi and flags of Egypt along with Alexandria’s flags.

Around 1,300 youth will attend the conference, along with parliament members, heads of unions and universities, journalists, public figures, and representatives of the National Council for Women and the National Council for Human Rights.

Alexandria conference is scheduled to address the Egypt 2030 Development Plan and the ambitious development program formulated by the government, the private sector and NGOs.

The National Youth Conference is scheduled to kick off every three months as decided previously by the president during its launch in October 2016, when the first conference took place in Sharm El-Sheikh.

For the past few months, National Youth Conferences were held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Aswan and Ismailia to discuss issues directly related to young people, such as ways to enhance their political participation and means to prepare them to be future leaders.


In October 2016:

The first round of the National Youth Conference was held under the slogan ‘Innovate… Advance’ in Sharm El-Sheikh in the attendance of nearly 3000 Egyptian young people from different fields.

This came as a response to President Sisi's call to hold a conference for Egyptian youth which was launched during the celebration of the Egyptian youth day on January 9, 2016.

The first conference was held with the aim of extending effective communication channels among the Egyptian Government and the prominent Egyptian youth across the country.

The main outcome of the October conference was the establishment of the Detained Youth Committee, which prepared a list of 82 detainees who were later released by a presidential pardon, one month after the conference.

President Sisi concluded the first youth conference with a statement in which he valued the Egyptian youth and stressed the importance of investing in them saying, “My faith in the importance of investing in our young people as a national project for producing active energies in the State was the driving force for producing a realistic determination by the State to care for the young people and invest in them according to their capabilities.”


In late January 2017:


The second round of the National Youth Conference was held in the Upper Egypt city of Aswan.

The two-day event focused on the development of Upper Egyptian governorates and the role that could be played by the youth at the political and social levels.

Aswan conference was a flicker of hope for the Upper Egypt residents and proved that the government pays attention to its southern governorates and citizens.

It focused on the challenges facing governorates of Upper Egypt. At the closing session of the second round, Sisi issued nine presidential decrees stressing that the government will work to increase exerted efforts aimed at improving the quality of life in Upper Egypt mainly through education, health, transportation, and housing.

Sisi announced on the second conference an initiative on small and medium sized enterprises in Upper Egypt, stressing the importance of Upper Egypt.


In April 2017:


The third National Youth Conference was held in the Suez Canal city of Ismailia.

This conference saw the launch of a new digital application named ‘Ask The President’ allowing citizens to direct their inquiries and opinions to President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi. The application is available on the website of the National Youth Conference (NYC). All users can register using their Facebook or Twitter account and their email.

The president participated in the ‘Simulation of the Egyptian Economy’ session during day number three of the third National Youth Conference.

Youth, through the session of ‘Simulation of the Egyptian Economy,’ pointed out the strengths and weaknesses of the Egyptian economy and its crises development especially in relation to the decrease in cash reserve and foreign direct investments.
