Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing during his state visit to China.
CAIRO - 29 May 2024: The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Ahmed Fahmy, stated that President Xi received President Sisi at the Great Hall of the People. The reception included a formal welcome ceremony, national anthems of both countries, and an honor guard review.
Following the ceremony, the two leaders held in-depth discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of elevating Egypt-China relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
A joint statement was issued detailing the areas of cooperation and coordination for the upcoming period, including the announcement of the "Egypt-China Partnership Year," which will feature numerous diplomatic, economic, and cultural cooperation events between the two countries.
The spokesperson highlighted that the discussions covered thecountries' perspectives on international and regional developments. President Sisi emphasized the urgent need to halt the war in Gaza, noting the severe humanitarian, security, and political consequences of Israeli military operations in Rafah, including the latest tragic bombing of a refugee camp.
President Xi praised Egypt's pivotal role and continuous efforts in maintaining calm and facilitating humanitarian aid. Both presidents agreed on the necessity of an immediate ceasefire and rejected the forced displacement of Palestinians from their lands. They affirmed that implementing a two-state solution is essential for restoring stability and ensuring regional peace and security.
Additionally, the discussions covered the situation in Africa and ways to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and China to support the continent's development efforts. President Sisi underscored the paramount importance of securing Egypt's water security.
Following the discussions, the two presidents witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements, including a joint development plan for the Belt and Road Initiative, enhanced cooperation in technological innovation and communications technology, and various other collaborative fields.
