CAIRO - 28 May 2024: A security source has stated that there is no truth to the circulated rumors on social media regarding the death of another soldier in the Rafah border incident.

Security sources, in exclusive statements to Al-Youm7, revealed that the border strip incident is something Egypt had warned about for months. The Israeli attack on the Philadelphia Axis creates field and psychological conditions that are difficult to control and are prone to escalation.

The sources emphasized Egypt's warnings about the repercussions of Israeli military operations at the Philadelphia Axis and its caution against compromising the security and safety of Egyptian security personnel deployed along the borders.

They pointed out that the international community must bear responsibility for the danger of escalating security situations along the Egyptian borders with Gaza and the Philadelphia Axis, not only concerning border security but also regarding humanitarian aid flow routes.

Egypt is concerned that Palestinians could be displaced from southern Gaza by the offensive, and has also repeatedly accused Israel of holding up deliveries of humanitarian aid to the territory, which Israel denies.

Egypt and Israel signed a peace treaty in 1979 and have cooperated closely on security issues around the borders between Israel, Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, and the Gaza Strip. They jointly upheld a blockade of Gaza after Hamas took control of the territory in 2007.
