Egypt’s FM, EU counterpart discuss Israeli war on Gaza

CAIRO - 26 May 2024: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with High representative of EU for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell to discuss the latest developments of the Israeli genocidal war against the Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip on Sunday in Brussels, according to a statement released by Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid. 

The meeting addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza due to the nonstop military shellling and operations in the strip, particularly in the Palestinian city of Rafah along with the Egyptian border.

Both sides affirmed the need for taking an action to halt Israeli war and military operations in Rafah, Abu Zeid continued. 

Mechanisms to level up bilateral strategic partnership and preparations for holding  an Egyptian-Eu investment conference due to in June 2024, Abu Zeid continued. 

Shoukry and Borrell
 

Shoukry, headed on May 26 from Paris to the Belgian capital, Brussels, to participate in a joint meeting of the European Union Foreign Affairs Council, with a number of Arab foreign ministers.

The visit aims at seeking to intensify Arab Forign Ministers’ consultations with the European parties in order to stop the Israeli war against the Gaza Strip. 

On May 24, Shoukry traveled to Paris to engage in discussions with several Arab counterparts and French President Emmanuel Macron regarding efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza.

Over more than seven months, the Israeli war has claimed the lives of nearly 40,000 Palestinians and injured more than 80,000 others.
