CAIRO – 24 May 2024: Qatar welcomed on Friday the ICJ decision calling for an immediate halt to the Israeli military attacks on Rafah, and the opening of the Rafah crossing for humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip.
Qatar also welcomed the ICJ decision that calls for ensuring the arrival of an investigation or fact-finding committee regarding the charge of genocide and submitting a comprehensive report to the court within a month.
Qatar hoped the decision would pave the way for an immediate, comprehensive, and permanent ceasefire in the Strip.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered that the ICJ decision reflects the international community’s categorical rejection of the war on the Gaza Strip. It stressed the need for the Israeli authorities to fully commit to implementing all provisions of the decision, and to provide the ICJ with a comprehensive report.
Qatar also stressed the need for the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities to provide full protection for civilians in the Gaza Strip.
Qatar reiterated the state’s firm position on the justice of the Palestinian cause, the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and the establishment of its independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
