CAIRO – 17 May 2024: The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has issued a warning for scorching hot weather that will dominate most parts of the country throughout the upcoming week.

According to the EMA, the heatwave is expected to linger for at least seven days, so it's time to take precautions.

If you have any outdoor plans, it's highly advisable to seek shelter from the blazing sun. Temperatures in the shaded areas of Egypt will flirt with, record, or even surpass the 40-degree mark, at least until Thursday.

In Greater Cairo, expect highs ranging from 37 to 39 degrees all week long, with lows hovering around 23-24 degrees.

Meanwhile, in the sunny paradise of Sharm El-Sheikh, temperatures will frequently flirt with the 40-degree mark, occasionally even hitting 40 degrees for the highs, while lows will settle around 25-26 degrees.

Moving to northern Upper Egypt, brace yourself for some truly scorching temperatures that may exceed 40 degrees, reaching a toasty 42 degrees on certain days. Lows will be around 26 degrees.

As for southern Upper Egypt, home to the captivating wonders of Luxor and Aswan, get ready for the hottest temperatures in all of Egypt. Highs will sizzle at 41-43 degrees, while lows will offer a bit of relief at 27-28 degrees.

Not just the heat!

Remember, it's not just the heat you need to worry about; dusty winds are also expected in Greater Cairo, the Western Desert, and exposed areas in South Sinai and southern Egypt.

To beat the heat, stay hydrated and try to postpone outdoor activities during the sweltering midday hours whenever possible.

The EMA recommends wearing head caps and opting for loose, cotton clothing to keep cool.
