FM Shoukry reaffirms Egypt’s stance on backing Iraq’s security, stability

CAIRO – 14 May 2024:  Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has reaffirmed Egypt’s firm stance on supporting the stability and security of Iraq.

The minister’s remarks came at a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein in Bahrain on the sidelines of their participation in the Arab League’s ministerial meeting in preparation for the upcoming 33rd Arab Summit.

Shoukry greatly welcomed Iraq’s growing ties with Arab countries over the past years, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

Shoukry also shed light on President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to boost cooperation with Iraq in all fields.

The meeting reviewed growing relations among Egypt, Iraq and Jordan, reaffirming Egypt’s keenness to cement cooperation and strengthen ties with Iraq in different domains, the spokesman said.

Shoukry highlighted Egypt’s efforts on addressing Gaza crisis and reaching a ceasefire deal as soon as possible, stressing that Egypt categorically rejects all forms of forced displacement of Palestinians.

For his part, Hussein lauded the strong relations between Cairo and Baghdad, praising Egypt’s pivotal role in efforts aimed at putting an end to the war in the Gaza Strip and guaranteeing the delivery of humanitarian aid into the war-battered Palestinian enclave.
