CAIRO – 5 May 2024: The Ministry of Labor indicated in a press statement Sunday that 94,811 disabled individuals had been employed between 2014 and January 2023, while the figure - starting that date until present - is 14,000.

The ministry equally noted that 7,240,077 citizens had been employed locally and abroad between 2014 and 2023. The ministry contributed to that achievement through the employment fairs it has been holding in collaboration with the private sector, as well as the licensed companies facilitating the employment of Egyptians abroad.

The statement underscored that the unemployment rate fell from 14 percent in 2014 to seven percent in 2023. Currently, there are currently 3,400 job opportunities at 55 companies dispersed among 16 governorates, with the higher demand being on technicians in various sectors.

The number of disabled citizens amounts to 12 million, composing 15 percent of the Egyptian population. Fourth-four percent are employed. Regarding disabled females in specific, the employment rate is 17 percent, while the illiteracy rate is 70 percent.

Sixty-seven percent of disabled cases are caused by consanguineous marriages. The percentage of the disabled among low-income citizens and others segments is 18 percent and 14 percent, respectively. Also, 22.9 percent of the disabled suffer from food insecurity, compared to 13.8 percent among the non-disabled.
