CAIRO – 5 May 2024: The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development revealed in a statement Sunday that LE 71 billion would be allocated to the expansion of the capacity of schools and universities in the budget of FY2024/2025.
As such, the allocation to that sector increased by 60 percent compared to the previous year. The plan consists of introducing 16,000 new classrooms, and renovating 13,000 existing ones as well as 3,500 schools. The majority of those are located in governorates suffering from highly over-crowded classrooms.
As for technical education, 18 schools will be stablished while 200 others will be renovated in addition to 1,100 classrooms. Further, part of the budget will be committed to maintaining the implementation of the plan aimed at hiring 150,000 teachers to mend the shortage.
According to the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, Egypt has a total of 61,512 schools, 556,888 classrooms, and 922,628 teachers.
