CAIRO – 4 May 2024: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Saturday, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid on his official X account.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference, scheduled to take place on May 4th and 5th in Banjul, the capital of Gambia.

Both sides addressed key issues of the summit agenda and the ongoing efforts to stop the Israeli genocidal war against the besieged Gaza Strip in Palestine, Abu Zeid continued.

Sameh Shoukry has traveled to Banjul, the capital of Gambia, to represent President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference.

The two-day conference, themed "Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development," will address critical political and economic issues facing Islamic countries. These include accelerating progress towards sustainable development goals, eradicating poverty, and addressing climate change, as per a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry released on Friday.

Additionally, the summit aims to combat hate speech and Islamophobia while fostering dialogue and tolerance among civilizations, cultures, and peoples.

Presided over by Gambia, the 15th session is expected to issue the "Banjul Declaration," outlining the organization's stance on agenda items, along with a resolution concerning Palestine.

Minister Shoukry's agenda includes delivering Egypt's presidential statement and engaging in bilateral meetings with counterparts from member states. These discussions will focus on enhancing bilateral relations and addressing regional and global challenges.
