CAIRO – 30 April 2024: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and his Belarusian counterpart Roman Golovchenko witnessed Tuesday - during the latter's visit to Cairo – the signing of a number of memoranda of understanding to bolster economic cooperation in the sectors of investment, trade and tourism.

During a joint press conference, Prime Minister Madbouli stated that the two countries would develop a plan to exchange experience on water technology, noting that a significant percentage of machinery used in agribusiness is brought from Belarus.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi was the first Egyptian president to hold a state visit to Belarus since the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991. The visit took place in 2019, and was preceded and succeeded by others held by his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko in 2017 and 2020.

The two prime ministers will also be attending the Egypt-Belarus Business Forum. It is noted that the size of trade exchange between the two states amounted to $95 million in 2022. Also, Egypt is the second most popular destination for Belarus tourists.

Egypt's imports from Belarus include tractors, trucks, tires, equipment, metals, optical products, fertilizers, pumps, X-ray equipment, petrochemicals, agricultural products, pharmaceuticals, and garments. As for its exports, they are mainly citrus, aromatic plants, pharmaceuticals and garments, as indicated by the State Information Service (SIS).
