CAIRO - 25 April 2024: The liberation of Sinai is a professional and unique model of a political, military and diplomatic victory at the same time. It opened the path to peace and restored the Egyptian state’s sovereignty and prestige over its entire national territory with the departure of the last occupying Israeli soldier from it.

Diplomats unanimously agreed in press statements on Thursday, that April 25 carried an Egyptian message to the world that the people of Egypt do not give up a single inch of their homeland in war or peace, noting the strenuous efforts made by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in coordination with the concerned authorities during those years to prepare for the battle to reclaim the land.

As Thursday marks the 42nd anniversary of the liberation of Sinai, MENA spoke with a host of diplomats regarding the message that day conveys to the Egyptians and the whole world.

Former assistant foreign minister Salah Halima told MENA that the Liberation Day is an unforgettable memory for current and future generations and reflects the sacrifices of Egyptians for defending their country.

He stressed that Sinai Liberation Day is an occasion to remind current and future generations of the greatness of our army and the determination of their fathers and grandfathers who made sacrifices and gave their lives for the soil of the homeland, so that we may live today as dignified in a free and sovereign homeland.

He continued, in addition to the role of the armed forces, Egyptian diplomacy had a pivotal and appreciated role, especially with regard to negotiating and reaching the peace agreement, as it contributed to managing the discussions efficiently until the Israelis complied with the implementation of the treaty and the last occupying soldier left our lands.

Ambassador Salah Halima stated that the diplomatic victory, in addition to the military victory, restored Egypt’s prestige and sovereignty over its lands and made the countries of the world appreciate and respect the struggle of a people who trusted their leadership, army, and state.

For Former assistant foreign minister Gamal Baiomy, he told MENA that Egypt’s diplomacy played an important role in the liberation of Sinai, lauding the state’s efforts on uprooting terrorism in Sinai after the June 30 Revolution.

Baiomy added that April 25 was a strong test of the Egyptian fortitude and their ability to exercise self-control and move thoughtfully without recklessness.

"I visited Sinai during that period and witnessed the events, as there was procrastination by Israel for not implementing the peace treaty and withdrawing from the land; however, the political leadership at that time and its diplomacy held its breath and succeeded in managing that battle professionally thanks to persistence and determination, as well as experience and wisdom," he explained

And for his part, former deputy foreign minister Ali El Hefny also praised great efforts and sacrifices made by the state-owned institutions to liberate Sinai and support the process of peace and diplomacy.
