CAIRO - 25 april 2024: The victim of the delivery worker's crime, which shook bodies and topped various social media platforms, occurred when a delivery worker assaulted and disposed of 10-month-old infant girl, who lived with him in the same building.
The security forces managed to arrest the delivery worker, 22 years old, accused of ending the life of the infant girl "J.J." The accused made startling confessions about the details of committing the crime and ending her life.
According to investigations and statements from the victim's father, her mother was busy with household chores and left her little daughter, who was playing with her older sister. However, the victim managed to leave the apartment on the 13th floor, making her a victim of the delivery worker.
Seizing the opportunity, the delivery worker, who lived in the same building in one of the areas of Nasr City, kidnapped the little girl and assaulted her multiple times before ending her life, as she hadn't yet reached the age of one year.
The family continued to search for her with neighbors until they found her lying in a nearby garden with a fire burning next to her, set by the accused to conceal his crime. The family immediately notified the authorities, and by tracking the cameras, they identified the suspect and arrested him. The judge renewed the suspect's detention for 15 days pending investigations.
The suspect confessed to the investigators details of committing the crime and ending the victim's life while delivering food in Nasr City. He said, "I have inclinations towards young girls, especially little girls, and I knew that someone had committed such an act when I went to a sheikh in Asyut. After that, I had an idea to be with the girl."
The suspect continued, "I took the little girl and ran to the stairs, took her to the garden behind the building, put her on the ground, assaulted her, and strangled her, as she was crying loudly, so I put my hand on her mouth to silence her, and then I confirmed she had stopped breathing. After she died, I assaulted her again for two hours."
Women's organizations condemned the rape and murder of a Sudanese infant and demanded maximum punishment for the suspect.
Human rights activist Rana Babiker pointed out that the incident shook wide sectors of Sudanese and Egyptians, along with activists defending the rights of children and women, as it is a complex crime involving kidnapping, rape, and murder.
Rana called on the Egyptian judicial authorities to impose appropriate punishment on the suspect, "to serve as a deterrent to anyone who dares to commit the same crime."
The incident sparked a wave of solidarity on social media with the victim and her family, while activists and rights advocates called for awareness of child issues within communities.
