CAIRO – 25 April 2024: Egypt may now be able to produce coffee beans and other tropical crops due to the recent climate changes observed over the past 2 years, announced Adel Abdel-Azim, head of the Agricultural Research Center, on Wednesday.
Abdel-Azim explained that previous experiments conducted by the center to cultivate coffee beans in Egypt had yielded no success. However, upon the directive of Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Al¡Sayyed Al-Qusseir to revisit these experiments, it was discovered that coffee beans had begun to grow.
Abdel-Azim noted that with the recent climate shifts, coffee trees have started to bear fruit. In response to this development, the minister held a meeting with the research team to further explore coffee cultivation possibilities and instructed them to conduct additional applied experiments considering the new climate conditions.
Additionally, the minister has tasked the research team with analyzing the quality attributes and assessing the economic viability of the experiment before proceeding with any further steps.
