CAIRO - 24 April 2024: As of Friday, April 26th, the governorates will begin implementing the daylight saving time for opening and closing shops and restaurants.
Shops will close at 11 p.m., while restaurants, cafes, and bazaars, including those in commercial malls, will close at 12 midnight.
The date for implementing the summer timings for opening and closing stores was set by Article 6 of the Minister of Local Development’s Resolution No. 456 of 2020 regulating the opening and closing dates of stores, as the summer months according to the article start from the last Friday of April of each year until the end of the last Thursday of September every year.
The following are the closing dates for stores and commercial malls during the summer:
1. Shops and malls open daily from 7 a.m., and close at 11 p.m.
2. The timing is increased on Thursdays and Fridays, and on holidays and official state holidays to close at 12 midnight.
3. Restaurants, cafes, and bazaars, including those in commercial malls, will open daily starting from 5 a.m. and will close at 1 a.m.
4. Take-out service and home delivery service for restaurants and cafes will continue 24 hours a day.
5. All workshops and craft shops inside residential blocks are open daily from 8 a.m., and close at 7 p.m.
6. Except for workshops located on roads, gas stations, and workshops related to urgent services for citizens.
7. Grocery stores, supermarkets, bakeries and ovens are excluded from these timings.
8. Taking into account the nighttime activities of some stores, such as stores selling fruits and vegetables, poultry stores, wholesale markets, and pharmacies.
9. The opening and closing times for stores located in coastal governorates may be modified by decision of the Minister of Local Development based on the governor’s proposal.
