EU amb. says returns to Austria with numbers of ‘witty friends’

CAIRO - 22 April 2024: Head of the European Union delegation to Egypt Christian Berger said he will return to his country, Austria, with the phone numbers of countless friends whose wit he has “never seen in any other country.”

Berger’s mission in Egypt will end by the end of 2024. He has served in his position since September 2020. 

Humor is part of the Egyptian character, which is able to joke and laugh at any time despite the crises through which it goes. This making even the most difficult situations pass smoothly.

The Egyptian sense of humor is well-established in the Arab world, an idea that was spread mostly by many successful Egyptian movies and soap operas over decades.
