CAIRO – 22 July 2017: Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry received a phone call from his Jordanian counterpart Ayman El Safadi on Saturday evening on the Palestinian crisis, according to a ministry press release.
During the call, both discussed the deteriorating security situation in Jerusalem, the contraventions committed by the Israeli forces in the vicinity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the stringent measures and steps to be taken by Arab nations regarding the crisis.
Tensions were running high across Jerusalem Friday as thousands of Palestinians were marching towards the Old City to denounce increased Israeli security measures at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Israeli forces also violently suppressed demonstrations in the occupied West Bank, injuring scores who had gathered in solidarity with the massive protest in Jerusalem.
An emergency Arab League meeting will be held at its Cairo-based headquarters to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian clashes that took place in Jerusalem and the West Bank, Arab diplomatic sources told Egypt Today on Saturday.
It is expected that the meeting would convene in the coming few days, the sources added on condition of anonymity as they are not authorized to brief the media.
