For his part, Sameh Shoukry said that the Egyptian state is working to strengthen cooperation with Turkey in order to achieve stability in the region, adding: "We aspire to enhance trade cooperation with Turkey to reach $15 billion."
He further said during a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart in Istanbul: “We must take it seriously to prevent the continued displacement of Palestinians and work to establish an independent Palestinian state.”
Speaking at a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, who is currently visiting Ankara, Fidan said he discussed with the Egyptian foreign minister a number of regional issues, including the Palestinian cause.
Egypt and Turkey are cooperating to serve the interests of both nations, he went on to say.
Fidan said a joint declaration was signed in Cairo on the re-establishment of the high-level strategic cooperation council between the two countries and that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi will visit Turkey on the occasion of the convocation of the council.
He added he discussed with Shoukry preparations for meetings of the council.
