Sudanese army denies allegations of Egypt’s detention to cargo ship heading to Sudan

CAIRO -17 April 2024: The Sudanese Armed Forces denied on Wednesday allegations circulated on some websites regarding Egypt’s detention of a cargo ship that was heading to Sudan.

In an official statement, the General Command of the Sudanese Armed Forces said that number of news websites sites have published “misleading information indicating that Egypt has detained a cargo ship heading to the Republic of Sudan. The Sudanese Armed Forces clarify that this information is misleading and incorrect, and that Egypt has not detained any ship was heading to Sudan.”

On March, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that any future political process in Sudan should include all effective national parties.

The process-to-be should be based on the principle of respecting the sovereignty, unity and safety of Sudan, Shoukry said in a meeting with Tom Perriello, the US special envoy to Sudan, during his visit to Cairo.

The top diplomat also spoke against interference in the domestic affairs of Sudan, pressing for action to preserve state institutions there, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

Shoukry posted Perriello on Egypt’s diplomatic efforts with global and regional powers, as well as international organizations, to prevent any escalation in Sudan and reach a sustainable ceasefire agreement, the spokesman added.
