CAIRO - 12 April 2024:  In line with Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Issa's directives to regularly monitor tourist traffic at various archaeological sites and museums across Egypt during Eid al-Fitr, Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, conducted an inspection tour on the second day of Eid in the Giza Pyramids area.

He was accompanied by Ashraf Mohi El Din, Director General of the Giza Pyramids Antiquities Zone, to ensure the smooth operation and visitor traffic to the area in light of the large influx of tourists.

Khaled explained that the area is operating at full capacity to provide a distinguished tourist experience. He added that work is in full swing, with the presence of area inspectors and security personnel who are performing their duties to the fullest.

This contributed to the absence of any problems during the first and second days of Eid, despite the high number of visitors, which reached 35,000 on the second day throughout the designated working hours.

In a related context, Dr. Khaled Sharif, Assistant Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Digital Transformation and Supervisor of Service Development at archaeological and tourist sites and museums, inspected the ticket sales outlets in the Giza Pyramids area in order to provide a different and easier tourist experience and avoid any congestion, especially after the operation of four self-service ticket vending machines in the archaeological area, which accounted for more than 20% of tickets sold in the first week of operation.

Dr. Diaa Zahran, Head of the Central Administration for Antiquities of Cairo and Giza, also visited the Citadel area to ensure the regularity of work and the smoothness of tourist traffic in the area, as well as the commitment of antiquities inspectors, security supervisors, and cashiers to the regulations.

He noted that the number of visitors to the area increased significantly on the second day of Eid, reaching 6,000 visitors.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, represented by the Supreme Council of Antiquities, has formed an operations room from various sectors of the council to follow up on the progress of work and receive visitors at various museums and archaeological sites throughout the republic during Eid al-Fitr, starting from Tuesday, April 9, to Sunday, April 14, 2024.
