CAIRO – 4 April 2024: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry initiated a phone call on Thursday with Muhammad Mustafa, the new Palestinian Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, to congratulate him on assuming his duties and on the formation of the new government.

 

Shoukry conveyed his best wishes for abundant success in achieving stability and fulfilling the aspirations of the Palestinian people, according to a press release by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

 

The Egyptian foreign minister reiterated Egypt's steadfast commitment to supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and their government, as well as fulfilling the obligations placed upon it.

 

Shoukry emphasized Egypt's ongoing efforts to facilitate a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip between the Palestinian Resistance fighters and the Israeli occupation forces, with the aim of alleviating the human suffering of the Palestinians in all the occupied Palestinian territories, including the West Bank and Gaza.

 

The two parties engaged in discussions regarding the incessant Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and the continuous inhumane violations against its residents.

 

They underscored the necessity of achieving a lasting ceasefire to safeguard the lives of the Palestinian people, and to ensure the unimpeded and sustainable delivery of aid. Additionally, they discussed coordinating efforts to support ongoing initiatives aimed at recognizing the Palestinian state and securing its full membership in the United Nations.

 

The Palestinian prime minister and the Egyptian foreign minister expressed pride in the established relations between Egypt and the State of Palestine. Mustafa further stressed Palestine's commitment to enhancing coordination and joint efforts with Egypt to halt the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and mitigate its humanitarian consequences.

 

Mustafa also highlighted his appreciation for Egypt's pivotal role in supporting the Palestinian cause and upholding the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people since the onset of the crisis.
