Damage left by Israeli bombardment of Gaza Strip - file
CAIRO - 28 March 2024: A United Nations report said that two-thirds of Gaza's 36 hospitals have stopped working and only two hospitals are operating, and 10 are working partially, including 4 in the north and 6 in the south, according to the United Nations Information Center.
Earlier, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that it helped evacuate civilians from Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, in light of the intense Israeli military operations there.
The office, along with the Palestinian Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies, transported 6 patients, a companion, more than 20 employees, and the bodies of two people who were killed inside the hospital. The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that Al Amal Hospital stopped operating as of last Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the head of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Andrea Di Domenico, was able to visit Kamal Adwan Hospital, which is one of the four hospitals that are partially operating in northern Gaza. Di Domenico said the hospital receives 15 malnourished children a day and is struggling to continue providing its services.
The report added that the only generator in the hospital was severely damaged, while patients and health workers are in dire need of food, water, and sanitation support.
According to the World Food Programme, 70 percent of the population of northern Gaza faces catastrophic hunger, but efforts to deliver life-saving aid to the north face obstacles due to restrictions on humanitarian access and fighting.
During this month, the World Food Program was able to send only 11 convoys to the north carrying enough food for 74,000 people.
