Egypt air drops aid to Gaza - file
CAIRO - 16 March 2024: Dr. Maya Morsi, President of the National Council for Women, and Head of the Egyptian delegation participating in the activities of the 68th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, met with Dr. Sima Bahouth, Executive Director of UN Women, on the sidelines of the 68th session held in New York, to discuss ways of cooperation between the two sides in the common fields.
Dr. Maya Morsi extended her sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Sima Bahouth for the effective partnership between the Egyptian government and UN Women in supporting and empowering women in various fields, stressing the importance of this cooperation within the framework of various national projects.
She also thanked Dr. Sima Bahouth and UN Women for their tireless efforts to make sure the humanitarian aid provided by UN Women reach the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in coordination with Egypt, in a way that meets the needs of Palestinian women in particular.
Dr. Maya Morsi also addressed issues of cyber violence and the importance of strengthening protection mechanisms for women and girls from this type of violence, which hinders their participation in public life and their access to leadership positions.
For her part, Dr. Sima Bahouth praised the pioneering role of Egypt, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in the Arab region and Africa, praising Egypt’s efforts in supporting UN Women in providing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, stressing that the arrival of this aid would not have been possible without Egyptian efforts.
Also, she praised the efforts of the Egyptian Red Crescent in facilitating the arrival of aid that meets the basic needs of Palestinian women.
Dr. Sima Bahouth praised the efforts of the National Council for Women, headed by Dr. Maya Morsi, in supporting Palestinian women and their role in the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), praising Egypt’s efforts in economically empowering women, and in implementing the financial inclusion program for women.
