CAIRO – 4 March 2024: Reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is the basic guarantee for the entry of aid in sufficient quantities to meet the urgent and unmet needs of Palestinians in this besieged enclave, said Egyptian Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy in media remarks on Monday.
“Egypt has provided the largest amount of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip […] This is a humanitarian, moral and political duty to which we are committed,” he said in comments to the “DMC Evening” talk show on the DMC channel.
Egypt and the UAE continued airdropping of tons of humanitarian aid and food onto the north area of the Gaza Strip, where more than 300,000 Palestinians are facing acute systematic starvation due to the Israeli besiege on the strip.
This comes with the continuation of effective Egyptian efforts in cooperation with international countries and international institutions to ensure the sustainability of humanitarian aid for the Gazans, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Defense on Monday.
Several people including 16 children and an elderly man starved to death in the northern Gaza Strip as a result of this systematic starvation after Israel had prevented the access of water, food, electricity, and fuel from the strip since October 7, 2023.
Last week, Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Qatar, and France coordinated efforts to airdrop much-needed assistance to Gaza, showcasing global solidarity in addressing humanitarian challenges.
Israel has killed 30,534 people and injured 71,920 others in the strip since October 7, 2023.
