CAIRO – March 3, 2024: The water security of Egypt and Sudan is an integral part of Arab national security, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi said Sunday.

"We oppose any action or measure that infringes upon the two countries' rights in the Nile water," AlBudaiwi told the joint GCC-Egyptian ministerial meeting, held at the GCC General Secretariat in Riyadh.

The GCC chief emphasized the importance of the joint ministerial meeting between the GCC and Egypt due to the significant strategic ties and relationships between the two sides.

Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani chaired the meeting that was attended by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his counterparts of the GCC countries.

AlBudaiwi said the ministerial council affirmed the support of the GCC countries for efforts aimed at resolving the Renaissance Dam problem, taking into account the interests of all parties.

He stressed the necessity of reaching an agreement in accordance with the principles of international law and the presidential statement of the Security Council issued on September 15, 2021.

AlBudaiwi described Egyptian-Gulf relations as strategic and distinctive, expressing hope to continue consultation and coordination on regional and international issues of common interest, and boost ties to support and enhance security and stability in the region.
