CAIRO – March 3, 2024: The Egyptian Dar Al Iftaa (the Fatwa House) announced on Sunday that the crescent of the month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar during which Muslims worldwide fast from dawn to the sunset, will be sighted on March 10.
“We will observe the crescent of the month of Ramadan next Sunday, God willing,” the Fatwa house said on its official Facebook page on Sunday.
The sighting occurs after sunset on the 29th of the month of Shaban, the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. Upon sighting the crescent, the commencement of Ramadan is confirmed.
If the sighting falters and the crescent does not appear, the month of Shaban extends to its 30th day.
It's noteworthy that Ramadan typically begins approximately 10 to 14 days earlier each Gregorian calendar year compared to the previous year.
