CAIRO - 2 March 2024: The activities of the Camel Racing will begin Saturday in El-Alamein, with the participation of camel owners from all governorates of Egypt.
About 700 racing camels, from 12 governorates, will participate in the race to compete for the first places in the new camel race in El Alamein Square on the North Coast, which is scheduled to continue for two days.
Eid Hamdan Al-Muzaini, President of the Egyptian Camel Racing Federation, said that the race will is launched in El Alamein Square with the support of the UAE Camel Federation, with the participation of camel owners in the governorates of North and South Sinai, the governorates of the Canal, Matrouh, New Valley, and the governorates of Upper Egypt, Sharqia, and Matrouh.
He said that the participating camels will compete in the first 32 rounds of the race, including two rounds with a human rider, and the rest of the rounds with a robotic rider, which is a control and driving device placed on the camel’s back, and is controlled remotely to encourage it to increase its speed.
He added that the participating camels have arrived at El Alamein Square, in preparation for the race, and they are among the camels owned by 25 tribes from the governorates of Egypt. He expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Emirati side for continuing to provide support and care for camel races in Egypt, and encouraging camels to raise camels and improve their level.
Salama Ibrahim Tarabin, Head of the Competitions Committee of the Egyptian Camel Federation, said that this race is a refresher race within a series of refresher races that start on the grounds of camel racing fields in all governorates of Egypt, pointing out that each of the winning contestants will receive incentive financial prizes.
He pointed out that the registration of the names and ages of the camels scheduled to participate has been completed in accordance with the conditions, the most important of which is the presence of an electronic chip implanted in each camel bearing its official registered data, name, type, breed, date of its participation in each race, and the positions it achieved.
It is noteworthy that the camel racing field in El Alamein is one of the most modern camel racing fields in Egypt, which was presented by the UAE as a gift to Egypt. Last September, it witnessed a refresher race in which 400 competitors participated.
