CAIRO – 21 February 2024: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry praised Bolivia’s position regarding the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip that was clearly manifested in its rejection of any Israeli military operation in Rafah and its call for an immediate ceasefire and unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid.
He also praised the level of coordination and cooperation between Egypt and Uruguay at bilateral and international levels.
This came in Shoukry's meetings with Bolivian and Uruguayan counterparts Celinda Sosa and Omar Paganini, respectively, on the sidelines of the G20 meetings.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said Shoukry congratulated the Bolivian minister on assuming the foreign portfolio, pointing out that the two countries have many potentials to maximize joint cooperation at the international level.
The Bolivian Minister appreciated the Egyptian position regarding the war in Gaza and alleviating the suffering of the Palestinians.
During his meeting with his Uruguayan counterpart, Shoukry expressed satisfaction over the level of coordination and cooperation between the two countries at bilateral and international levels, praising the role of the Uruguayan battalion in the multinational force in Sinai since its establishment in 1982.
He underlined the importance of adopting an objective approach while dealing with the war in Gaza away from absolute bias towards Israel, and calling for the full implementation of Security Council Resolution No. 2720 with regard to supporting the activities of the Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction in Gaza and facilitating her duties in Gaza.
