CAIRO – 8 February 2024: Minister of Culture, Nevine el Kelany, announced that the 55th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF) achieved unprecedented success, attracting a record number of visitors.
During a Cabinet meeting on Thursday, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, and Minister of Culture, highlighted the remarkable achievements of the CIBF 2024, emphasizing its influential role both regionally and internationally.
Under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the CIBF 2024 was inaugurated by the Prime Minister, with the theme "We Create Knowledge... We Preserve Word."
Kelany revealed that the fair drew nearly 5 million visitors across different age groups. The exhibition showcased over 550 cultural events and 120 artistic activities.
The minister noted the participation of around 1,200 publishers and 5,000 exhibitors from 70 countries worldwide.
The exhibition witnessed record-breaking sales for private publishing houses, public institutions, and sectors affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, with over half a million copies sold.
Kelany further highlighted the presence of approximately 200 Arab and foreign writers and intellectuals who were part of the cultural program.
Salim Hassan, a prominent figure in Egyptology, was honored as the character of the exhibition, while writer Yaqoub Al-Sharouni was chosen as the representative of children's literature.
The exhibition hosted several significant events, including a "Palestine Day" event and the signing of a cooperation protocol with the Venezuelan Minister of Culture to promote cultural exchange.
Kelany mentioned that the closing ceremony featured the announcement of the exhibition's prize winners and the official handover of the banner to Oman, the chosen guest of honor for the 56th edition of the exhibition in 2025.
