CAIRO – 3 February 2024: The European Union (EU) has announced the allocation of additional economic and financial support to Egypt as both sides have agreed to elevate their relations to the level of a strategic partnership.
According to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Olivér Várhelyi, the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, held a phone conversation with Sameh Shoukry, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, on Friday.
During the call, they discussed the outcomes of Shoukry's recent visit to Brussels, where the European states agreed to enhance economic support for Egypt.
Várhelyi highlighted that the additional financial allocations to EU's neighboring countries, including Egypt, are part of the mid-term review of the EU budget for the period 2021-2027.
The phone call also addressed various aspects of cooperation between the two sides in the political, economic, commercial, cultural, and scientific fields under the new comprehensive strategic partnership.
They also discussed the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and emphasized the importance of increasing humanitarian aid to Gaza while removing any obstacles that hinder the delivery of adequate and sustainable aid.
