Stéphane Séjourné, French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs delivers a statement to the Security Council on the situation in the Middle East - French government
Paris – 24 January 2024: France has expressed its appreciation to Egypt for their assistance in facilitating the safe evacuation of seven Palestinian children who were wounded in Gaza. The children have been relocated to French hospitals for medical treatment.
"France thanks the Egyptian authorities for their support in ensuring these evacuations went ahead smoothly," said a joint statement issued by France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Labor, Health, and Solidarity.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains a grave concern for France. The statement emphasized the urgent need for food, drinking water, and medicines in the region, as the civilian population has been enduring a severe health and food crisis for several weeks.
The statement further reiterated the call made by Stéphane Séjourné, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, during his speech at the United Nations Security Council on January 23. Séjourné urged immediate action towards achieving a lasting ceasefire, as it is the only solution that can alleviate the suffering of civilians in Gaza.
This is the second instance of such an evacuation to France, following the arrival of two Palestinian children in the country on December 28.
