CAIRO – 25 January 2024: Egyptian First Lady Entissar El-Sisi extended her greetings to the Egyptian people on the Police Day, expressing her appreciation of the sacrifices of the police martyrs’ families.

“On Police Day, I would like to greet the Egyptian people. This day is a reminder of the glory and heroism of policemen,” the first lady said.

“I also salute the mothers of the martyrs who have sacrificed their precious sons for the homeland's safety and security. May Allah protect Egypt and its people,” she added.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi attended on Wednesday the ceremony of the 72nd Police Day, where he granted the names of the martyred police officers medals of honor.

January 25 marks a historic battle between the Egyptian police forces and the British Occupation forces in 1952, which was called the “Ismailia Battle.”

On that day, the Egyptian police officers refused to hand over their weapons and evacuate the Ismailia governorate’s building. The incident left 50 individuals killed and 80 injured among the Egyptian police officers.

The incident was the spark of the revolution that ended the monarchy in Egypt on July 23 of the same year.

In 2011, the January 25 revolution marked the ousting of former President Hosni Mubarak after three decades in power and the holding of democratic multi-candidate elections in the following year.
