Egypt eyes cooperation in specific sectors with Bulgaria, Luxembourg: FM

CAIRO – 22 January 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs met Monday with his Bulgarian and Luxembourger counterparts in Brussels on the sidelines of the Association Council of the European Union and Egypt.

Minister Shokry stressed to Minister Mariya Gabriel the necessity of devising a joint vision on making Egypt a center for Bulgarian firms to enter the markets of the Middle East and Africa. On the other side, Egypt aims for establishing a logistic center in Bulgaria to better deliver exports to southeastern European markets and eyes increasing the number of Bulgarian tourists to its destinations.

 

The two ministers also welcomed continuous mutual support at the international community level and backing the nominations of each other's states for international positions. They also discussed opportunities of bolstering trade exchange and economic cooperation, particularly in the sectors of manufacturing, energy, and agriculture.

 

Minister Shokry said that he looked forward for Bulgaria to back the Egyptian vision on accomplishing security and stability in the Middle East, stressing the salience of preserving nation states, state institutions, and eliminating terrorist organizations.

 

As for the meeting with Minister Xavier Bettel, Minister Shokry expressed aspiration that Luxembourger firms would increase their investments in the Egyptian market, particularly in the sectors of infrastructure, energy, and banking services.

 

The meeting also tackled the war in Gaza so as both ministers expressed rejection to the displacement of Palestinians. In that context, Minister Bettel displayed the outcomes of his meetings with officials in Tel Aviv, Ramallah, and Jerusalem, asserting his country's commitment to the two-state solution.
