CAIRO – 11 January 2023: Al Azhar, Egypt’s top Sunni Islamic institute, announced its full support for South Africa’s courageous stance and lawsuit it filed before the Hague-based International Court of Justice  (ICJ) against Israel for the latter’s genocidal war on the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

Al Azhar affirmed that South Africa’s stance represents the free will of the world and its consciousness which rejects all scenes of killings and destruction and bloodshed by Israeli entity against the Palestinians, amid the world’s silence.

It also praised the South African Minister of Justice-led legal committee’s remarks at the hearing session as they reflect the world’s free people’s rejections of all horrific violations and atrocities committed by the Israeli occupation against the innocent and weak Gazans.

The Islamic institution called on other countries to take part in South Africa’s move, praising other countries that announced their support for South Africa’s case against the Israeli occupation.

The Al-Azhar Observatory called on the countries of the world to join South Africa in its lawsuit against Israel for annihilating the Palestinian people.

“The right of the Palestinian people to land is an established and indisputable historical fact,” the Observatory said in a statement.

“International legal moves that support the rights of the Palestinian people and condemn the endless Zionist massacres are important, even if they come late, after nearly 100 days of continuous genocide operations,” the statement added.
