Pope Tawadros II leads Christmas Mass at new capital’s Cathedral, prays for Palestinians

CAIRO – 6 January 2024: Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Mark led the Coptic Christmas Mass at the new capital’s Cathedral, praying to God for all those who are wounded and suffering from conflicts, wars and violence.

He said that he and Coptic clergymen designated Koiak, the fourth month of the Coptic Calendar, to pray for the people of Palestine.

He said that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s visit to the cathedral every year to congratulate Egyptians for Christmas represents a high-value.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi extended greetings to Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and the Christian people across the country on Christmas, as he attended the celebrations at the Cathedral of Christ's Nativity, the New Administrative Capital.

Pope Tawadros II, presented a souvenir to President Sisi during Christmas celebrations at the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ in the New Administrative Capital.

During his brief visit to the cathedral, Sisi urged Egyptians to stand together in the face of the challenges and difficult circumstances, which is taking place amid critical global and regional developments.

“No matter what crisis, problems, or difficult circumstances we face, thanks to Almighty God, as long as we stand together, things will pass, and difficult conditions will come to an end,” Sisi said.

The Cathedral of Christ's Nativity in the Administrative Capital has opened its door for attendees of the Christmas mass, which began at 7:00 PM. Pope Tawadros II is leading the mass.

Numerous public figures, ministers, governors, as well as members of the House of Representatives and the Senate are attending the mass.
