Egypt stresses respect of Somalia's sovereignty

CAIRO – 3 January 2024: Egypt asserted its full respect to the unity and sovereignty of Somalia, rejecting any attempt to harm Somalia's sovereignty.

Somalia and its people have the right to solely benefit from its resources, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

The ministry warned of the gravity of growing movements, measures and official statements by regional and foreign countries that hamper stability in the Horn of Africa region and increase tension among regional countries.

The ministry asserted the importance of respecting the goals of the foundation law of the African Union, including respecting the sovereignty of member states, their unity of lands and independence.

Egypt called for heeding the values and principles of cooperation and joint action for the best interests of people in the region, the statement said.

The ministry called for avoiding unilateral measures that increase tension and pose threat to regional security and interests.
