CAIRO – 29 December 2023: The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) is working side by side with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to establish a camp, southwest of Khan Younis in Gaza, for the internally displaced people.
The camp will be able to accommodate more than 6,000 people, providing them with all relief and medical services, the Egyptian Red Crescent said in a statement.
People living in the camp will also enjoy basic needs, including food and water, the statement affirmed.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said the initial phase of the camp will include 300 tents, accommodating displaced families of the medical, ambulance, and relief teams at the PRCS.
The capacity will be expanded later to reach 1000 tents, providing shelter for hundreds of displaced families in the southern region of the Gaza Strip, the PRCS added.
Israel has been targeted Gaza’s infrastructure as well as refugee camps since early October, causing the enclave to witness one of the world’s worst tragedies and humanitarian crises.
Moreover, the Israeli aggression has so far killed nearly 21,000 people, most of whom are women and children, and injured around 55,000 people.
The unrelenting attacks have also displaced 85 percent of Gaza’s 2.3 million population, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) last week.
