CAIRO – 21 July 2017: The Counter Extremism Project (CEP), a U.S.-based NGO, issued a

report

in June called “Qatar, Money, and Terror” in which the CEP reveals Doha’s well-documented record of supporting terrorist organizations and individuals.

The report stated that “Qatar — a longtime U.S. ally and member of the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS (Daesh) — has supported and harbored international terrorist organizations and individuals.”

The CEP accused Qatar of providing direct financial and logistical support to al-Qaeda, Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood and the Nusra Front.

It mentioned facts and information about terrorist leaders supported by Qatar, including former Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal and Muslim Brotherhood ideologue Yusuf al-Qaradawi.

The report also referred to a speech to former U.S. Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David Cohen, who said Qatar is a “permissive terrorist financing environment” that enables “private fundraising networks” to operate within its borders.

The CEP called on Qatar to arrest, expel, or otherwise cut off support to the figures of terror groups.

The CEP was founded in 2014 to combat the growing threat from extremist ideologies, led by a renowned group of former world leaders and diplomats.

In early June 2017, several countries, including Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, severed diplomatic ties with Doha over accusations of Qatar backing and funding terrorist groups.

The countries closed airspace and maritime ports to Doha transportation.
