Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah passes away at 86

CAIRO - 16 December 2023: Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah died on Sunday, December 16, 2023, at the age of 86, the royal court announced.

The royal court said that Sheikh Nawaf died after a long illness. He had been hospitalized in November 2023 after a health scare.

Sheikh Nawaf was born on June 25, 1937, and was the 16th emir of Kuwait. He was the son of Sheikh Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, the 10th emir of Kuwait.

Sheikh Nawaf received his education in Kuwait and served in a number of government positions, including minister of interior, minister of defense, and minister of social affairs and labor. He was named crown prince in 2006 and took over as emir in 2020.

Sheikh Nawaf's death is a major loss for Kuwait and the Gulf region. He was a respected leader who was known for his commitment to peace and stability.
