CAIRO – 8 December 2023: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that the Rafah crossing had not been closed since the beginning of the crisis in Gaza Strip.
He added, Friday that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza is collapsed and that the world needs immediate action to bring in aid.
The foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia participated in a dialogue session on the development of the situation in Gaza and the efforts made to stop the war, Friday.
Shoukry said that the current situation in the Gaza Strip cannot continue, and hostilities must stop, adding that what is happening in the Gaza Strip undermines international law, and there is double standards in the ongoing conflict.
Permanent Representative of France to the UN in New York Nicolas de Rivière on Friday called for a new, immediate and lasting humanitarian truce, which should lead to a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
"This requires the delivery of more aid. Humanitarian actors are no longer capable of carrying out their operations. Safe and unhindered access must be ensured, and international humanitarian law must be respected. The protection of civilian populations, civilian and health infrastructures and humanitarian personnel must be fully guaranteed," the French diplomat told a Security Council session.
"Access to water, fuel, medication, food and necessities must be ensured. The opening of new crossing points is necessary, including Kerem Shalom, as well as an increase in the volume passing through Rafah. Control procedures must not delay the delivery of aid," de Rivière said.
"The situation in the West Bank is worrisome. France strongly condemns the recent decisions on settlements and the violence carried out by groups of settlers. The Israeli authorities must put an end to these acts and prosecute the perpetrators. France, for its part, intends to impose a ban on entering France and to freeze their assets," he added.
