Egypt welcomes Security Council resolution lifting arms embargo on Somalia

CAIRO – 5 December 2024: Egypt welcomed on Tuesday UN Security Council Resolution 2714, issued on December 1, as regards lifting the arms embargo imposed on Somalia since 1992.

This paves the way for enabling the Somalia government to continue its efforts to combat terrorism and achieve stability, Egypt added in a statement released by the Foreign Ministry.

Egypt reiterated its firm commitment to supporting the efforts made by the Federal Government of Somalia to restore security and stability as well as to enhance paths to development in a way that is positively reflected in the security and stability of the Horn of Africa region.
