CAIRO – 5 December 2024: Egypt has vehemently condemned an Israeli occupation government approval to build a new settlement in the occupied East Jerusalem (Al Quds), in blatant breach of UNSC resolutions that describe such settlements as a "flagrant violation" of international law and having "no legal validity."
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, Egypt categorically rejects Israel’s settlement policies and incessant attempts to change the legal, historical, and demographic status of the Old City.
Egypt also stressed that Israel must stop exploiting the world's preoccupation with the ongoing war on Gaza to intensify illegitimate practices in the West Bank, including settlement activities.
Egypt also reiterated its call on politically influential international parties, as well as the UN and its relevant affiliated bodies to live up to their responsibility for protecting the rights of Palestinians, and putting an end to Israel's unilateral settlement measures that undermine efforts to revive the moribund Palestinian-Israeli peace process.
