CAIRO - 2 December 2023: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met with Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, on the sidelines of the 28th session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai.
Ahmed Fahmy, the official spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic, stated that both sides emphasized their commitment to enhancing strategic cooperation and maximizing coordination on various political, security, military, developmental, and economic files of mutual interest. This collaboration aims to maintain security and stability in the Middle East, the Mediterranean region, and Africa.
During the meeting, both leaders exchanged views on regional and international issues, particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip. Prime Minister Meloni thanked Egypt for its pivotal role in promoting peace in the region, which was evident in hosting the Cairo Peace Summit.
President Sisi reviewed Egypt’s intensive efforts to restore calm and cease-fire to protect civilians, ensuring safe and urgent access for humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. He stressed the need for the international community to take responsibility to stop this escalation, allowing diplomatic efforts to address the root causes of the Palestinian issue and resume the peace process.
