CAIRO – 29 November 2023: First Lady Entissar Amer greeted the “steadfast” Palestinian people as she marked the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, celebrated by the United Nations annually on 29 November.
“We greet the Palestinian people, who are steadfast in defending its land,” the first lady said in a social media post on Wednesday.
“We affirm that the Egyptian people and leadership are the first supporter of the rights of every Palestinian so that they fulfill their dream in living in their independent state with full freedom and human dignity,” she added.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has marked the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, saying the day reaffirms solidarity with the steadfast people of Palestine and helps keeping the Palestinian cause live and present in the international events and the global conscience.
The ministry affirmed that the commemoration of the day this year coincides with a painful reality in which the Palestinian people are witnessing an “unprecedented brutal aggression, in which humanity has been slaughtered every day for more than fifty-four days.”
The ministry stressed that the current Israeli practices constitute a blatant violation of the rules of international law and international humanitarian law.
Int’l Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian Peiople
The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People has been commemorated every year since 1978 to mark the anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations General Assembly’s Palestine partition resolution in 1947.
The day aims at reminding the international community that the Palestinian cause has not been resolved yet and that the Palestinian people have not obtained their inalienable rights as defined by the UNGA so far.
Such rights include the right to self-determination, the right to achieving independence and sovereignty, and the right of the refugees to return.
This year, the day is commemorated while the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip since October 7 has killed around 15,000 civilians, most of which are women and children, displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, and damaged the enclave’s infrastructure and vital facilities.
