CAIRO – 17 November 2023: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al Sisi welcomed on Monday his Hungarian counterpart Katalin Novák on her first visit to Egypt, praising the strategic cooperation relations between the two countries in all political, economic and cultural fields.
According to Presidency spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy, Hungarian President lauded the continued development in relations, and urged for more cooperation between the ‘two friendly countries.
The meeting also discussed the regional situation, especially with regard to the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
President Sisi reviewed the Egyptian efforts from the beginning of the crisis until reaching a humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip, stressing the importance of reaching a permanent ceasefire and entering the largest possible amount of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza Strip in a way that meets their living needs and limits the extent of the enormous human suffering they are witnessing, while ensuring the conflict does not extend to the West Bank.
Sisi also stressed that the stability and security of the region is fundamentally linked to international recognition of the Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
For her part, the President of Hungary strongly appreciated the Egyptian role in maintaining stability and peace in the Middle East, expressing her country’s appreciation for Egypt’s efforts, whether in working diligently to resolve the region’s crises or at the international level in various relevant forums.
The two sides agreed on the need to work towards calmness, condemning the targeting of all civilians, while rejecting forced displacement and stressing the importance of not expanding the conflict regionally.
