FM Shoukry discuses developments in Gaza Strip with American counterpart Blinken

CAIRO – 16 November 2023:  Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call on Thursday from his American counterpart Anthony Blinken, as they discussed developments in the Gaza Strip crisis.

According to official spokesperson of the Ministry, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the two officials reviewed international and regional efforts to deal with its serious humanitarian repercussions in the strip.

 The two ministers also exchanged views on the deteriorating security and humanitarian conditions in Gaza, as Minister Shoukry stressed the necessity of implementing the Security Council resolution issued on November 15, especially establishing truces and humanitarian corridors and prioritizing the arrival of the necessary aid to the Strip, while clarifying that the primary goal is It should focus on reaching a comprehensive ceasefire.

Minister Shoukry also touched on the Israeli violations and practices of “collective punishment” of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, pointing to the role of the United States and influential international parties in intervening to stop these violations, provide the necessary protection for civilians, and ensure adequate access to aid for the needs of the Strip.

Shoukry stressed Egypt’s rejection of the Forced displacement of Palestinians inside or outside the Gaza Strip.

The US Secretary of State expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to work to contain the crisis and limit its repercussions, as well as for its role in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza and the exit of foreign nationals, noting the US side’s keenness to continue coordination with Egypt regarding various aspects of the crisis.
